An initial alignment image of James Webb Space Telescope(JWST).

나사는 JWST가 촬영한 HD 84406 별의 초기 정렬 이미지를 공개하였다. 사진에서 나머지는 모두 은하들이다.  이 이미지의 목적은 미러 정렬 평가를 위해 중심에 있는 밝은 별에 초점을 맞춘 것이지만 제임스 웹 우주망원경의 광학 장치와 근적외선 카메라(NIRCam)는 배경에서 은하들과 별들을 볼 수 있을 정도로 매우 민감하다. 6.5미터(4인치) 주경(로켓 페어링 내부에 넣기에는 너무 커서)은 18개의 육각형 베릴륨 미러 조각으로 구성되어 있다.

Here's an initial alignment image released by NASA today from JWST of star HD 84406. Everything else is galaxies.  While the purpose of this image was to focus on the bright star at the center for alignment evaluation, Webb's optics and NIRCam are so sensitive that the galaxies and stars seen in the background show up. The 4-inch (6.5-meter) primary mirror ？ much too big to fit inside a rocket fairing ？ is made up of 18 hexagonal,  beryllium mirror segments.
